Co. C, Illinois 2nd Light Artillery
Civil War

Ansel M. Whedon was born about 1832 in New York to Samuel and Filora Harden Whedon.

The family migrated to Illinois before 1850 and farmed in Cuba Township.

He married Emma Jackson on May 19, 1860, in Lake County; they had one child.

As the Civil War waned, Whedon was drafted into the Illinois 2nd Light Artillery, Company C, from October 1864 to June 1865.

By 1870, he farmed his own property in Cuba Township.

Ansel M. Whedon died in January, 1880 of pneumonia, mere weeks after his wife’s death. He is buried with her and his parents in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
