Francis James Morgan was born September 13, 1925, in New Haven, Connecticut to Joseph F. and Anne Moore Morgan.
He moved to Bridgeport, Connecticut at an early age, and graduated from Harding High School in 1943. Following graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy and served on the USS Piedmont, Store Keeper 3rd Class and subsequently served in the V-12 Officer Program at Yale University. He graduated Yale in 1947 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering and Business Administration.
In 1952, he married, Mary Margaret Cunningham of Bridgeport, CT. and together they raised five children. After Mary’s death in 2008, he married Josefina Blanco Rivas in 2012.
Early in his career, Frank was employed in various manufacturing companies, including Chance Vought (division of United Technologies) where he helped lead the project team for the F7U Cutlass Fighter, the first American fighter designed from the outset with an afterburner. He later worked at General Motors, The Remington Arms Company and the American Bosch Arma, where he was involved in the design and installation of the first all-inertial guidance system on the Atlas E (SM-65) ICBM missile.
In 1964, Frank accepted a position as corporate manager of industrial engineering at the Quaker Oats Company and over a 26 year rose to become President and Chief Operating Officer of the Quaker Oats Company from 1983 until his retirement in September 1990. He also served on numerous corporate boards. In retirement he supported a number of philanthropic organizations and served on the Board of several nonprofit organizations.
SK3 Frank J. Morgan died peacefully on October 15, 2022, in Barrington, surrounded by family. He is buried with his wife, Mary, in Evergreen Cemetery.
