George Arthur Landwer was born January 22, 1917, in Barrington to George R. and Ida Klein Landwer.

He graduated from Drake University in 1938, with a degree in Fine Arts, and worked as a teacher in Fernald, Iowa.

Landwer enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on February 10, 1942, and was assigned to 1330th Army Air Force Base Unit, Squad B, where he served as a radioman on planes.

Private First Class George A. Landwer was killed in action on July 1, 1945, when his plane crashed into the Assam Valley in India. His grave is located with his parents in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
