TSGT Roscoe H. Rowland

Roscoe Henry “Buck” Rowland was born on March 17, 1916, in Delevan, Illinois, to Joseph and Sarah (Bennett) Rowland.


He was employed as an automotive mechanic in Barrington before he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving four years and attaining the rank of Tech Sergeant. As a member of an amphibious truck unit, Rowland took part in landings in North Africa, Italy, France, and Sicily.


After his discharge, Rowland married another WWII Veteran, TSGT Etta Mae Hutchinson in Barrington, on January 9, 1946; four children were born to them.


He owned and managed Rowland Sales and Service of Barrington, a lawn and garden store, until his retirement in 1981.


TSGT Roscoe “Buck” Rowland died April 5, 1983, while vacationing in Egypt. He is buried with his wife at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington.
