Mark Stephen Gibson was born June 17, 1946, in Rockford, IL, to Robert and Violet (Johnson) Gibson.


Gibson graduated from Valparaiso University and the University of Illinois Medical School. He completed his Emergency Medicine Training at McGill University in Montreal and was in the first group of physicians certified by the American Board of Emergency Medicine.


He married Suzanne Sites on June 5, 1968, in Elgin, Illinois. They raised three children.


Gibson served in the U.S. Air Force at Andrews Air Force Base, where one of his assignments was to be on the flight line whenever the president departed or arrived on Air Force One.


Dr. Gibson worked for forty years as an Emergency Physician at various hospitals; he was Chair of the Emergency Department at Sherman Hospital and St Joseph Hospital in Elgin, IL. He also sailed the world as a physician for Holland America traveling to all seven continents. As a Rotarian he co-led a Friendship Exchange to Taiwan and made multiple humanitarian trips to Guatemala.


Dr. Mark Gibson passed away peacefully January 11, 2023, and rests in Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington.
