Eugene Bernard Conrad was born December 10, 1929, in Port Washington, Wisconsin, to Nicolaus and Louisa (Doeppel) Conrad.

After graduating from Port Washington High School, Conrad attended Georgia Tech under the Navy's Flying Midshipman Program. He was a Navy fighter pilot for six years, flying in the Korean War off the aircraft carrier Bon Homme Richard, and attaining the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade.

Ensign Conrad married Elaine G. Weiland on December 26, 1952 at Lake Church, Wisconsin; they raised 7 children in their 55 years of marriage.

After leaving the Navy, he became a 35-year pilot for United Airlines, flying the Asia and South Pacific routes during the latter portion of his career.

Conrad was engaged in the community as a member of many organizations: the Association of Naval Aviation, the Flying Midshipmen Association, the Tailhook Association, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Retired United Pilots Association, the Knights of Columbus, and St. Anne Church in Barrington.

LTJG Eugene Conrad died on October 24, 2007, at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington. He is buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington.
