Richard Karl “Rich” Pals, was born in on July 31, 1943, to Karl Herman and Charlotte (Ylovia) Pals. After graduating from Palatine High School in 1961, he worked in the family tavern/restaurant “Charlotte's” in Barrington.
Pals joined the U.S. Army in May, 1965, and served as a lineman in Company B of the 32nd Signal Battalion in Germany.
Upon his discharge from the service, Pals opened “Pals Pets” in Palatine, then, later in Rolling Meadows. For 20 years it was a place where customers became friends.
He had two children with his first wife, Christine, and later married Nikki Nicola in 1981.
PVT Richard Pals passed away October 25, 2016, in Crystal Lake, and rests at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington.
