PVT John C. Myers

John Conrad Myers born January 31, 1843, in Hesse, Germany, to John and Maria Meyers.  The family emigrated to the U.S. in 1848, and settled in Schaumburg.


Meyers served in Company A, 7th Illinois Infantry Regiment, from March 2, 1864 to June 17, 1865; he was honorably discharged for wounds to his eye received in action at Allatoona Pass, Georgia.

 

On May 15, 1868, he married Emma Augusta Pachaly in Chicago. They had six children, four of whom reached adulthood.


Myers worked at the Barrington depot for ten years before he was appointed superintendent of the farm work at Dunning (Chicago State Hospital for the poor and insane) where the family lived for 12 years. Returning to Barrington in 1888, he worked in various positions for the Village, the Methodist Church and Evergreen Cemetery. He was a well-known and respected citizen with a quiet disposition.


Private John C. Myers died October 11, 1915, in Barrington. He is buried with his wife at Evergreen Cemetery.
