1852 - 1910
Co. D, 7th U.S. Cavalry

Oscar Eugene Maynard was born on December 29, 1852, in Fayston, Vermont, to David and Mary (Richardson) Maynard.  Maynard’s aunt relocated to Cuba Township from Vermont, which likely influenced his move to the area.

He enlisted in the 7th Cavalry in Chicago, at age 23, on September 9, 1876, and served five years.

On February 9, 1883, he married Lena Glendora Garner, in McHenry County; two children were born to this union before her early death. Maynard’s second wife was Birgitte Jacobsen, married on February 7, 1888, in Cook County; five children were born to them.

Maynard was a carpenter and lived in the Barrington area for many years. He was a well-read man and could converse on many topics.

Private Oscar Maynard died November 12, 1910, when struck by a Chicago & Northwestern train in Palatine. He is buried with his wives in Barrington’s Evergreen Cemetery.
