Hiram Wallace Hawley was born in Phelps, Ontario, New York, on December 26, 1837, to William and Harriet (Goodale) Hawley.
His family relocated to Barrington prior to 1850, where they farmed.
On February 22, 1854, he married Martha Ann Hollister in Barrington; they had one son.
Hawley enlisted as a Private in Company E, 113th Illinois Infantry Regiment on 1 October 1862. He died in the Battle of Vicksburg at Corinth, Mississippi, on August 8, 1863.
Private Hiram Hawley’s remains are buried at Corinth National Cemetery in Mississippi, but a second memorial headstone stands in the family plot at Evergreen Cemetery to honor this Barrington area soldier.
