Co. D, 115th NY Infantry
CW

John Banta Harrower was born April 11, 1837, in Fulton County, New York, to Walter and Maria (Banta) Harrower.

The early part of his life was spent on his father's farm near Amsterdam, New York. When he was twenty-five years of age he enlisted with two younger brothers, in company D, 115th New York Volunteer Regiment, where he served nearly three years, attaining the rank of Corporal. Sadly, both of his brothers, Isaac and William Harrower, died of illness in 1864 at Fort Monroe, in Hampton, Virginia.

In 1867, the family removed to Illinois and settled a farm in Ela Township.

On October 2, 1868, John Harrower was united in marriage with Miss Margaret M. Lewis of Northfield, Illinois; they had seven children, four of whom survived to adulthood in Ela Township where he located his farm in 1877.

Corporal John Harrower died August 16, 1907, in Barrington, and is buried with his parents, wife and children at Evergreen Cemetery.
