Albert D. Gleason

Albert Downer Gleason was born January 24, 1834, in Oswego, New York, to Hiram and Caroline (Farnham) Gleason.
He relocated with his family to Libertyville in 1849, and apprenticed as a carpenter.
In 1857, Gleason married Eliza Sanborn, who passed away after giving birth to one son. Gleason married again in 1864 to Eliza Colgrove, who died in 1871. He married third wife, widow Emily Tripp Hawks, in 1872, who shared three children with him.
Gleason was a soldier in the Civil War, drafted into Co B, 12th Illinois Infantry, and was with Sherman on his famous March to the Sea, and also in the battles of Lookout Mountain, Mission Ridge, the Seven Days Fight at Atlanta, and the skirmish at Wilmington. He received an honorable discharge at Springfield, Illinois on May 31, 1865.
He made his home in Barrington in 1866, and built many buildings in the Village and surrounding country.
Albert D. Gleason died July 6, 1901 in Barrington; he rests forever with his wife Emily in Evergreen Cemetery.
