Robert Richard Steinmetz was born October 1, 1932, in Chicago to William and Virginia Hockstad Steinmetz and grew up in Norwood Park.

He married Susan Klise on August 22, 1959 in Chicago. They raised two daughters in Barrington.

Steinmetz played football at Taft High School in Chicago and at Culver Stockton College in Canton, Missouri, where he was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon. After graduating in 1954, he served two years in the U.S. Army during the Korean War at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas.

Robert spent his life working with pumps and meters; he worked for Gould's Pumps in Chicago and Detroit before becoming President of Steinmetz and Associates. He finished his career at Accurate Metering.

Steinmetz was active in his Fox Point community and in the Presbyterian Church of Barrington. Everyone who knew Bob was drawn to his large personality; he loved to tell stories and could talk about his grandchildren for hours.

Veteran Robert R. Steinmetz passed away April 4, 2017, in Barrington. He is buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington.
