Bernard James “Jim” Zelsdorf was born April 1, 1927, in Tucson, Arizona, to Bernard J. and Ethel (McGraw) Zelsdorf.  

Zelsdorf grew up in Barrington, and returned after serving in the Army during World War II.  Thanks to the GI bill he was able to attend college, graduating from Bradley University in 1951 with a degree in accounting.

He married Donna Overly in August of 1951; together they raised two children.

Zelsdorf worked in accounting Florsheim Shoe Company and the Pennsylvania Railroad for several years, then he became the Finance Director for the Village of Barrington in 1959 and served the Village for 30 years. After retirement, he held many volunteer positions, both civic and secular.

He passed away peacefully at home on July 22, 2021, and rests with his wife at Evergreen Cemetery in Barrington.
