Hiram H. Williams

Hiram H. Williams was born at Cooperstown, New York, August 1, 1847, the son of Chauncey and Hannah Williams.

When he reached the age of 18, he enlisted in Co. L. 7th N. Y. Artillery; he was wounded at Spotsylvania Court House on May 19, 1864, and honorably discharged in September of the same year.

About 1873, Williams settled in Joliet and was married to Jane Hoose, who died in 1886. To this union was born one daughter. On June 22, 1886, he married Miss Emma Matteson in McLean, Illinois; five children were born of this marriage.  Mr. Williams married once more in 1897, to Miss Charlotte “Lottie” Orr, who survived him.

He was a carpenter by trade and followed the builders' moving trade for many years.

Veteran Hiram H. Williams died November 30, 1918, and is buried at Evergreen Cemetery.
