Edward R. Sargent

Edward R. Sargent was born in New Hampshire in 1843, and described as a “promising student” at the University of Chicago where he enlisted on May 6, 1864.

He served in Company E, 134th Regiment, Illinois Volunteers.  He died on Sept. 26, 1864, in Kentucky, “of disease contracted while on duty,” at the age of 21.

Corp. Sargent’s body was returned to Illinois where he enlisted, and rests at Evergreen Cemetery.
