Donald Kenneth Johnson was born February 26, 1919, in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin to Peter and Jennie (Dahlander) Johnson.

 

He was a lifelong resident of Barrington, and graduated from Barrington High School. He served as a First Lieutenant in the Army Air Force during World War II, and flew many successful missions in the European Theatre. He was a charter member of VFW Post 7706 and remained active throughout his lifetime. In 2008, he was a participant in Honor Flight to visit the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C.

 

He married Patricia J. Stenersen in July, 1949, and together they raised three daughters and a son. The couple taught ballroom dancing in the area for many years.

 

Johnson was an exceptional golfer and highly respected by many having served as President of Western Amputee Golf Association for many years. He hit nine holes-in-one and seven eagles in his lifetime. In 1968, Johnson co-founded National Amputee Golf Association (NAGA) with Bill Davis, the founder of Golf Digest. He was renowned for his exceptional humor as Master of Ceremonies at NAGA events.

 

First Lieutenant Donald K. Johnson passed away on Dec. 30, 2011, and is buried with his wife at Evergreen Cemetery.
