George Hapke and Frank Wagner were Waukegan visitors Tuesday.

C.W. Sowles of Chicago spent Sunday with relatives and friends in our village.

Mr. and Mrs. J. Zimmer and son of Long Grove were guests of Mr. and Mrs. H. Geary Monday.

O.E. Whitcomb returned to his home in Chicago Thursday, after a two weeks’ visit with relatives and friends in our village and vicinity.

Mr. Shippe of Iowa is spending the week with relatives and friends in our village, having just returned from a trip to his old home in Vermont.

J.E. Glynch returned to Chicago Monday, having sold his share in the old J. Glynch farm, 45 acres, to E.E. Gilbert. $1,800, we understand, was the consideration paid.

Lent began Wednesday and services were held at the Catholic church at 9 a.m., and ashes distributed in accordance with the day. Lent to the Catholic people is a time of penance and abstinence and amusements and festivities are put aside for the six weeks following until Easter Sunday.

We understand that Kirwan & Fuller are contemplating putting up a fine new blacksmith shop this spring, having purchased an addition to their lot from J. Spencer. The building will be 20 feet wide and 80 feet long, which will provide more ample accommodation for their increasing business.

Mr. Loeffner, sr., died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G.W. Pratt in our village Monday of congestion of the brain. Mr. Loeffner was quite an aged man and for the past year has made his home with Mr. and Mrs. Pratt, the latter being his adopted daughter. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon from the German Lutheran church at Lake Zurich and interment in Fairfield cemetery.

A vocal and instrumental concert by the celebrated Victor graphophone under the direction of Carl Ericksen will be given at the M.W.A. hall on next Monday evening at 7:30 o’clock. We wish to state to the public that this is not a toy graphophone but one of the very latest and best instruments known to the scientific world. Program will embrace perfect reproduction of the latest popular songs and instrumental selections. Those who have heard “The Holy City,” as sung by the world-famed baritone, Mr. McDonald, say the one selection is worth the price of admission. A cordial invitation is extended to one and all. Admission 10 cents, children’s 5 cents.

Mrs. L.D. Wright, sr., is very ill at her home in Dundee.

There is a young son at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Will Disbron.

Grace Miller’s aunt, Mrs. Wheaton of Elgin, was her guest Monday.

Frank Reeves succeeds Bert Smith as janitor at the school building here.

There will be an old peoples’ quartet at the concert here on Friday evening.

Mrs. Sarah Fisher died at her home here Wednesday February 12th, aged 78 years.

The ladies of the W.C.T.U. held a mothers’ meeting at Liberty hall on Thursday afternoon. There was a good program.

Herman Grebe of Barrington called on his brother Lewis, Thursday.

Asa Crabtree has moved here from Avondale, and has secured a position in the gravel pit.

The ladies cleared $26 at the social given in the M.E. church Friday evening. There were thirty aprons and baskets sold and all present had an enjoyable time.

Mrs. Chas. Kaschub of Belvidere is visiting with her mother, Mrs. Buhman, who is quite ill.
The Odd Fellows will hold their annual entertainment and ball Friday evening of next week.

Miss Vera Mentch went to Elgin Tuesday to consult a physician for nervous prostration. She was accompanied by her father.
