What can customers expect during this phase of the Library’s reopening?

Effective August 30, 2021, and by order of the state of Illinois: masks are now required indoors, for all ages two and up, regardless of vaccination status. This is due to the high spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant. Complimentary masks are available throughout the Library. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we work together to keep our communities safe. 

The Library is open all regular hours:
Monday - Friday: 9 AM to 9 PM
Saturday: 9 AM to 5 PM
Sunday: 1 to 5 PM


Meeting Room now available to BALibrary cardholders - limited capacities are in effect

Good news! We are happy to welcome you back to the first floor Meeting Room, with the first available dates beginning Wednesday, September 15, 2021. Reservations must be placed by a BALibrary cardholder. Please note that safety measures will be in place, including limited capacities (rooms can accommodate 8-28 people). Study Rooms, Business Cubicles, and First Floor Conference Room are open to full capacity
Please note:

  • BALibrary cardholders may reserve a room for a session from 15 to 120 minutes. Customers may make one reservation per day, with one renewal (for up to 120 minutes) if the room has not been requested by another customer.
  • Rooms are cleaned on a regular basis, and new air filtration devices are in use.
  • Book online now.

Tables and seating are available throughout the Library. Beverage vending machines and water fountains are available.

Customers may use:

      • Laptops available for checkout at the Business and Tech Center desk;
      • Wi-Fi;
      • Simple Scan stations;
      • Remote and in-house printing;
      • Library Catalog/15 Minute Express Internet stations;
      • Business & Tech center computers: customers may reserve in advance, walk-ins and guest passes also available;
      • Some Youth Services computers;
      • The MakerLab and Studio Kids are temporarily closed for clean up and repair. Submit 3-D print jobs and complete laser-cutting projects to our Digital Services team.
      • BALibrary cardholders may use Studio One. Details.

In order to provide the safest experience possible, some Library services and facilities will not be available during this phase. These include:

        • Most Youth Services play areas and interactives - but the learning pods and interactive floor are now open for young visitors! Visit our online Events Calendar and Youth Services blog for take-home activity kits and virtual programs.
