Material Services

The Barrington Area Library is recruiting for a part-time Page to join our Material Services team. This position offers a variety of responsibilities in a busy and innovative library.

This team member will:
➠ use our automated system to sort materials,
➠ shelve a variety of materials in all areas of the Library, and
➠ work independently within the Library.

➠ You are eager to learn new skills.

Requirements and Skills:
➠ Ability to pass shelving test
➠ Ability to read 8-point font print
➠ Physical dexterity to reach shelves of various heights and push carts throughout your work shift
➠ 16 years of age or older

Hours, Salary, and Benefits:
This year-round position will average 12 hours per week and earn $9.32 per hour. A tentative weekly schedule will include every Thursday evening (5 - 9 PM) along with Saturdays and Sundays (1 - 5 PM). Flexibility to cover or trade shifts is required.

Part-Time Custodian
Building Services/Operations

The Barrington Area Library is recruiting for a part-time Custodian. This position offers a variety of responsibilities in a busy and innovative library. This key team player will work with the Building Services Manager in maintaining a safe, clean, welcoming facility.

A successful candidate will:
➠Regularly monitor and maintain the library’s building structure, systems, and grounds.
➠Perform custodial and janitorial tasks throughout the building and on the library grounds.
➠Perform meeting room set up, take down, and cleaning of the furniture and rooms.
➠Promptly respond to urgent cleaning tasks and ticket requests.
➠Deliver materials and packages to appropriate staff and departments.

The full pay range is $14.87 - $22.30 per hour. This position will be scheduled 20-29 hours per work week, including day and rotating weekend shifts. Flexibility to work a variety of shifts is required for coverage. This position offers paid time off and membership in the IMRF pension fund.

volunteer opportunities


Adult Services – 2 projects (potential for on-going)

Interested in volunteering at the library? Do you have computer and technology skills? The Adult Services department is looking for volunteers to scan microfilm and digitize historic local newspapers. If you are a history buff, this might be the project for you. Hours: Flexible, depending on your availability.
Task: Digitizing
Requirements: High school or older. Basic computer experience with an understanding of file structures and a keen eye for detail.
