Part-Time Customer Service Associate - Two Openings

ABOUT US: The Barrington Area Library is a busy, friendly place that supports lifelong, active learning, and an appreciation for creativity and innovation. Customers of all ages and interests visit our Library, expecting to find excellent and informed service, and spaces designed for private work and group collaboration. Our Customer Service department is dedicated to ensuring a seamless experience by assisting customers with library services, answering inquiries, and providing personalized support to meet their needs.

JOB SUMMARY:

  • Greet and assist customers at service points, and provide assistance with checking materials in and out. Process customer account transactions. Process library card applications. Facilitate material searches.
  • Promote library services and instruct customers in their usage. Refer customers to other departments for additional assistance. Coordinate with other library staff as needed.
  • Provide information and resolve inquiries for customers, communicating on site or remotely via the call center, using a variety of tools including multi-line phone, email, instant message, and text.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • Friendly, positive demeanor.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong collaboration and problem-solving skills.

LOCATION: 505 N. Northwest Highway, Barrington, IL

SCHEDULING, PAY, and BENEFITS (Two openings):

  1. Customer Service Associate #1 (16-19 hours per week):
    This is a year-round, part-time, hourly position, averaging 16-19 hours per week. The pay range is $18.00 - $18.75 per hour. Skills, experience, and internal equity will determine offer made. Weekly schedules vary based on the needs of the department, but generally consist of 4 or 8 hour shifts between 8:45 AM - 9:15 PM, including 1-2 evenings per week, and 1-2 weekends per month. Flexibility in scheduling is required. This 16-19 hour position is eligible for the following benefits: paid vacation, sick days, and bereavement pay.
  2. Customer Service Associate #2 (20-24 hours per week):
    This is a year-round, part-time, hourly position, averaging 20-24 hours per week. The pay range is $18.00 - $18.75 per hour. Skills, experience, and internal equity will determine offer made. Weekly schedules vary based on the needs of the department, but generally consist of weekday shifts between 8:30 AM - 5 PM, plus 1-2 evenings per week, and 1-2 weekends per month. Flexibility in scheduling is required. This 20-24 hour position is eligible for the following benefits: paid vacation, personal, sick days, holiday and bereavement pay. Six weeks paid parental leave and participation in IMRF retirement pension are also included with this 20-24 hour position.

Part-Time Digital Services Assistant

ABOUT US: The Barrington Area Library is a busy, friendly place that supports lifelong, active learning, and an appreciation for creativity and innovation. Our newly renovated, state-of-the-art MakerLab, unveiled in 2024, offers a cutting-edge environment for hands-on learning and creative exploration. With the latest technology, including 3D printers, laser cutters, sublimation printing, and digital design tools, the MakerLab empowers customers to bring their ideas to life and dive into the world of innovation. The Digital Services Assistant offers a variety of responsibilities to facilitate the use of the library’s digital services and resources for our customers, community and staff.

JOB SUMMARY:

  • Provide digital services support to customers and staff.
  • Provide technical guidance on a variety of applications, software, and equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutter, and vinyl cutting machine with customers.
  • Troubleshoot equipment within the Digital Services spaces.
  • Carry out projects successfully while enhancing the customer’s experience through exceptional service.
  • Support staff during programs that feature MakerLab and Studio.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Familiarity with makerspace technology
  • Basic knowledge of digital content platforms such as Libby and Hoopla, and design/creation applications like Adobe Creative Cloud and iLife suite, is preferred
  • Proficiency with MS Office
  • Ability to coordinate and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines with excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: Onsite

LOCATION: 505 N. Northwest Highway, Barrington, IL

SCHEDULING:This is a part-time position, averaging 19 hours per week. Scheduling is generally three weekdays (two daytime shifts and one evening) plus a rotating Saturday shift. There is some schedule flexibility based on customer appointments and department needs.

PAY & BENEFITS: The starting pay range is $21.50 - $22.50 per hour (DOQ). Skills, experience, and internal equity will determine offer made. This position is eligible for the following benefits:
