Here you will find a list of tasks that benefit local organizations.
▶ Work with a team or on your own to complete as many tasks as possible by 9 AM, Monday, April 16.
▶ To accrue points, e-mail a photo of you/your team completing tasks to apathapp@balibrary.org.
▶ The top three contestants will win a $50 gift card to the Barrington area business of their choice.

1. Mane in Heaven is a nonprofit organization providing animal-assisted activity and therapy visits with miniature therapy horses. Because they are staffed entirely by volunteers, Mane in Heaven is always looking for ways to raise awareness about their work. Visit the Mane in Heaven Facebook page and like the page. Submit a screenshot of the page to get credit for this item.

2. Much of Mane in Heaven’s work is done through donations. Currently they have need for the following items: hand sanitizer, baby wipes, Clorox wipes, grooming kits, Showsheen, Mane n’ Tail, hand towels, washcloths, towels, Polaroid Instant Camera film, tarps, radios, flags, and assistive devices like wheelchairs and walkers. Choose an item from this list and deliver it to the organization during normal business hours. Submit a photo of you donating it to get credit for this item.

3. Rahab’s Daughters offers survivors of human trafficking basic support services such as shelter, clothing, education, and vocational training, empowering survivors to take back control of their lives. To complete this item, find a Facebook post from Rahab’s Daughters and share it to your own timeline. Submit a screenshot of your shared post to get credit.

4. It’s spring, and time to get outside! Join Citizens for Conservation for one of their regularly scheduled work days. Submit a selfie from the work site to get credit for this item.

5. Help the Citizens for Conservation administration office by volunteering to help with administrative tasks at their headquarters located at 459 W. Highway 22 in Lake Barrington. Call 847-382-SAVE (7283) to set up a time. Take a selfie in the office and submit for credit.

6. Barrington Youth and Family Services works to build healthier individuals and families. Visit the BYFS building and take a selfie in front to get credit for this item.

7. Barrington Youth and Family Services is on Facebook and Instagram! Find and follow them on one of the two platforms and take a screenshot.

8. Like the Barrington Area United Way page on Facebook and share one of their posts. Submit a screenshot of your post for credit.

9. Make a pledge of any amount to Barrington Area United Way via their website. Submit a screenshot of your confirmation to receive credit.

10. Find the Little Free Library near you by searching the map at littlefreelibrary.org . Take a selfie of yourself adding a book to the library to get credit for this item.

11. Feed My Starving Children is a nonprofit devoted to packing and shipping meals to needy families around the world. Volunteers are needed daily to pack boxes of food. To complete this task, sign up for a time slot on their website. Take a selfie for credit for this item. For this challenge only, receive one extra point for each person you bring along to volunteer.

12. The Community Meal is a local initiative designed to bring community members together over a meal several times a month. For this item, sign up for a two hour volunteer slot on their website and take a selfie at the location.

13. Have a gently-used prom dress taking up valuable closet space? David’s Bridal partners with the nonprofit Becca’s Closet to get formal dresses to girls who could not otherwise afford them. To donate yours, go to their website to print a free shipping label. Take a picture of yourself packing the box for credit for this item.

14. While you’re cleaning out your closet, consider donating some of your items to a good cause. Catchpenny (benefits Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital), Saint Anne's House of Hope, Salvation Army, and Goodwill all take donations. Take a photo of yourself in front of the store to receive credit for this item.

15. Looking for a volunteer opportunity that takes advantage of your professional skills? Visit Catchafire Skills-Based Volunteer Matching to view needs in your field. Many can be completed in as little as one hour. Search for opportunities within your area of expertise and take a screenshot of the results to get credit for this item.

16. Attend one of the One Book One Barrington programs being held between April 4-15. For this item, get an extra point for each person you bring with you. To get credit for this item, take a picture at the program and send it to us with the name of the program.

17. Barrington Area Conservation Trust wants you to like them on Facebook and share a post. Send us a screenshot.

18. Come to Barrington Area Conservation Trust's Earth Day event on Wednesday, April 19, any time between 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM, to help add native plants to the Pederson Preserve, directly across Lake-Cook Rd from the high school. Work for at least one hour, take a selfie, and share it with us.

19. Visit the Barrington Area Conservation Trust website bactrust.org/land; read up on conservation easements, then tag BACT and BAL in a social media post with something new you learned. Grab a screenshot of your post and submit it for credit.

20. Attend Barrington Area Conservation Trust's Dinner with Teddy Evening on May 22, 7 - 9 PM, to learn about the father of conservation, Theodore Roosevelt. Send us a selfie! OR Read about Monarch butterflies, native plants, oak trees, or buckthorn at bactrust.org. Send us a picture of your new butterfly garden, native plantings, oak tree -- or that buckthorn you pulled -- to earn a point.

21. St Matthew Lutheran Church is a collection site for Barrington Giving Day. Drop off new or like-new elementary school supplies or clothing -- they particularly need children's shirts. Look for the collection bin at the church, then submit a selfie with your donation and the bin.

22. Support WINGS in their mission to aid victims of domestic violence and abuse by donating an item from the list here. Items can be brought to the WINGS facility in Mount Prospect (by appointment only). Or, find the WINGS wish list on Amazon and donate that way. Take a picture of your donation or a screen shot of your Amazon order for credit for this item.

23. Clean out your closet and do some good. WINGS resale shops accept donations. Find a list of locations here, and take a selfie at the location with your donation.

24. Make a monetary donation of any amount to any WINGS program here. Submit a screenshot for your point for this item.

25. Help your neighbors make ends meet with a non-perishable food donation to the Cuba Township Food Pantry. For a list of items particularly needed, visit the website. Submit a selfie at the location with your donation.

26. For this item, perform a random act of kindness for someone. Submit a picture and a short description of what you did for credit. This item can be done as many times as you’d like, provided that the action and recipient are unique.
