The Barrington Area Library is governed by an elected, unpaid, seven-member Board of Library Trustees.

Open business meetings are held at 7 PM on the second Monday of each month. Board meetings take place in the Library's Zimmerman Room, on the mezzanine level.


The Barrington Public Library District announces three full-term six year seats to be elected during the April 1, 2025 Consolidated Election. Pre-Filing Notice (PDF).

Candidate information packets will be available beginning at 9 AM on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, at the Library’s Customer Service desk on the first floor, 505 N. Northwest Hwy, Barrington, IL. Stop by during the Library’s regular hours, Monday-Friday, 9 AM – 9 PM, Saturday, 9 AM – 5 PM, and Sunday, 1 – 5 PM. Interested candidates may also download a courtesy packet (PDF).

Please note that the candidate filing period is as follows:

Tuesday, November 12, 2024 – Friday, November 15, 2024 (9 AM – 12:00 PM and 1:30 – 5 PM)
Monday, November 18, 2024 (9 AM – 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM – 5 PM)

If needed, a Simultaneous Filing Lottery will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 11 AM in Meeting Room B.
