Miss Jennie Joyne is to teach at the Davlin school during the winter.

Mrs. C. M. Vermilya visited at Nunda Thursday of last week.

Emma Carmine is sick with scarlet fever. Dr. Kendalls is in attendance.

Miss Lawrence, of Wood stock, visited Jas. Lawrence Saturday and Sunday.

H. C. $. Sandman has purchased two lots west of the Catholic church formerly owned by Mrs. Stanford. Consideration, $1160. There will be two houses built on the lots this fall.

Perry Johnson, of Crystal Lake and Miss Nevelle, of Wauconda, visited at Dr. Filkins during the past week.

On Thursday evening, Sept. 8th, at 8 o’clock, the home of Dr. F. S. Filkins was the scene of a very notable wedding. Miss Maude, the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Filkins, was the bride and the groom was Ben. Castle, a well known and promising young business man who is with the wholesale house of Farwell and Co., Chicago. At the appointed honr, while the guests were listening to the sweet strains of the wedding march, played by Miss Nettie Lombard, the bride and groom entered unattended and passed under a beautiful arch of golden rod where they were met by the Rev. J. M. Strong, of Waukegan, former pastor and intimate friend of the family, who pronounced the sacred words, which consumated their happiness. The bride so well known in church and social circles because of her musical abilities, is a young lady who is beloved for the sweetness of her disposition and is well fitted to brighten and adorn the home of so estimable a young man. The bride wastestefully dressed in golden brown surah with pink trimmings, and she carried pink roses. The floral offerings were very beautiful. The wedding was witnessed only by relatives and intimate friends. The presents were handsome as well as numerous and useful. Their many friends wish them all the happiness possible.

John C. Christ, formerly cashier of the Barrington Bank, spent a few days ofhis vacation here this week.

There was to be a baloon ascension at Wauconda, Monday, but failed on account of there not being the equired amount of money raised.

Cary Gravel is being put on the streets.

E. C. Race, of the Inter State Building and Loan Association of Bloomington was here Friday for the purpose of making arrangements to organize a local Board of that Association.

Mr. Frank Miner, wife and son of Janesville, Minn., were guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Selleck last week.

J. O. Selleck is taking a vacation.

Miss Rogers, of Chicago, visited her sister, Mrs. E. W. Shipman, during the past week.

Labor day was not noticed much here.

The new sidewalks which are being built in different parts of the vilage are a decided improvement and certainly increase the value of the property in front of which they are built.

Mrs. Rhoda Lombard celebrated the anniversary of her fiftieth birthday at the risidence of her brother, H. T. Abbott, Friday evening , Sept. 7th. Among those presnet were messrs. And Mesdames, E. R. Clark, Wm. Howarth, Stewart Miller, Chas. B. Otis, F. S. Filkins, L. H. Bute, John Robertson and Mesdames, C. O. Winter, J. Sizer, L. E. Runyan, S. P. Parker, Strong, of Waukegan, and La Belle, of Chicago. Numerous and useful presents were given and a most enjoyable evening spent by those who were present.

There was plenty of excitement here Saturday evening, between an open air entertainment given by a medicine company and the merry go round.

A musical entertainment was given at the M. E. Church, Friday evening.

Frank Jayne, of Nunda, visited at Mr. E. Cannon’s during the last week.

School commenced last Monday with L. B. Easton as principal assisted by misses Frye, Barnett and Sherwood.
