community information screen
Advertise your nonprofit group's upcoming events on the display monitor in the library lobby. Around 30,000 visitors come through our doors each month, making the screen the perfect place to tell the community what your organization has planned.
The screen shows a rotation of PowerPoint slides; only basic knowledge of the program is required to create and submit slides. PowerPoint is available on many home computers and in the library.
How to create and submit slides
Slides are based on PowerPoint templates made to fit the screen.
If your computer has PowerPoint 2007:
Click a template below. Click "Save," save to your computer, and then click "Open" in the "Download complete" dialog box. Substitute your text for the placeholder text.
If your computer has PowerPoint XP or 2003:
Click a template below. Depending on your computer settings, a dialog box may appear on your screen. If it does, click "Save" and then "Open."
Place your mouse in the slide, right click, and choose "Edit Slides."
If using the templates below does not work for you, create your own slide in your PowerPoint program and change the dimensions of your slide to 10 inches wide by 5.63 inches high. In PowerPoint 2007, this can be accomplished by selecting "On-Screen Show (16:9)" from the "Slides sized for:" drop-down menu in the Page Setup. In PowerPoint 2003 use the File/Page Setup to change the dimensions. Make sure you include the name of your organization, the name of the event, date, time and place.
The library will display the slide exactly as submitted; be sure all information is accurate.
Save the completed slide to your computer or storage device.
Email your slide as an attachment to CommunityInfo@barringtonarealibrary.org. Indicate the date and the number of weeks (1, 2, or 3) you'd like the slide to appear.
Usage guidelines apply.

Advanced PowerPoint users may create and submit custom slides. In order to appear properly on the screen, slides must have a width of 12 inches and a height of 9 inches. Use the Blank Slide as a starting point for customizations.
